The Spiritualists’ National Union, commonly known as the SNU, is based at Stansted, Essex, UK
The are around 300 Spiritualist churches and centres throughout the UK with over 2500 individual members. It did not feature by name in the 2021 Census.
Our purpose is to share experiences with other spiritualists, many of whom run spiritualist churches that are affiliated to the SNU to determine whether or not the SNU is serving spirit, or as some suggest, itself.
Frank views are welcome in the hope that this will give support to churches who at times feel isolated and friendless, perhaps even fearful that the SNU is going to take their church away from them.
Thank you to those who have shared the problems that they have had with the top heavy SNU hierarchy, whether it be dodgy Graham or slippery Charles, as rarely does the SNU actually seem to support local churches.
Abuse or defamatory remarks will be deleted. Remember, whatever your feelings about the SNU as an organisation, we must operate within the parameters of truth to be effective in our remarks to be able to support others.
This blog is in keeping with David Bruton’s, the last President’s, stated wish to be informed of members’ thoughts. The reality is too few do so but should take up the challenge before we have an organisation that will be a ministers’ club only. If you are not one the top positions will not be open to you no matter how well you serve spirit.

Fair play for SNU churches 
Hi there, I have just come across your blog. I was going to visit my local spiritualist church in June as I am new to the area. I looked up the background of the guest medium – Kim John Webb – and was shocked to read about how he had fleeced one of his old vulnerable customers of a £20,000 watch for which he was convicted and fined – not enough, but that is another story. At another event in another place the medium was a former rapist. This is why I will never set foot in another spiritualist church. False prophets are running amok within the organisation and their numbers are 666.
Yes there are numerous cases of criminal behaviour by mediums and many involve fraudulent/dishonest activity. A glance through this site reveals how close to the top they have been or remain.

It is sad to report that some SNU Churches are still experiencing instances of fraud by members of the Church; the Union will always seek to support the Church in these cases and the police will also be involved should evidence of fraud be determined.
Be warned Kim-John Webb, as he is a lair through and through. We know of his activities on how he lies and cons his victims. Shortly after the 1999 scandal, we know of at least another fourteen family elders were all given the same treatment as Mrs Lelia Hughes was. they were tricked into believing he was a genuine trader, but his intentions were to rob them blind
Where do I start when it comes to the SNU..
As many May agree this establishment has turned into a money making Buisness!!
Making up all sorts of man made training to become a medium that costs an absolute fortune? Why? Lots of gifted people do not have the money or maybe the ability to do expensive courses … As far back in history that I can find, no medium, ever took an expensive course because no course existed and they had a natural gift from Spirit!!
Have they forgotten that gifts of mediumship come from ( Spirit ) and not an expensive course..
Spirit will show the way and teach you, no course can do that..
Today at the SNU people pay a fortune only to be most of the time failed then offered extra mentoring for £100s of pounds?
This is not spiritualism this is a business.
Where is all the money going!
Why does David Bruton get paid a salary along with others at the top. It’s meant to be voluntary?
That’s how it started out – it was all voluntary Also! Why are teacher / trainers SK being aloud to charge over a thousand pounds to mentor people when they fail their training ? That’s appalling!!
And.. Why are churches accounts not regulated or checked regularly by a governing body at head office – because all sorts of accusations about money seem to be happening in the churches but never investigated.
People are being ripped off left right and centre!
Not only from money but the false prophets that are claiming to be spiritual..
I have watched a slow decline in this movement over the past 25 years or more and it’s about time it was investigated before the present SNU and many churches ruin the history of spiritualism..

Sad but true…
I was involved with our local SNU Spiritualist Church for more than 35 years, and have done many of the positions on our committee. I do not belong to that church now.
In those days when I first started, they taught old school ethics. I took quite a few courses and the course notes and tutors were excellent. As time moved on so as the courses with more
variety. Most now require more from the students.
Some are better at demonstrating their gifts rather than the academic side. I do however
recognise the need for needing to show they understand some of the laws regarding how we conduct ourselves.
Over the past few years, I have seen a decline in the standard of many things within the SNU organization. Mediums in Great Brittain were regarded as the best in the world, but this will not be the case in a few years’ time if the decline continues. I personally think the SNU needs a
total overhaul to bring back the Spirit in Spiritualism.
Also, the price of courses at Stansted is too high for the majority of people which is a shame. Those who would be first-class mediums do not receive the training that would benefit them. It also does not help when a tutor that is taking students for their PASS says, “We are like driving instructors. Once you have passed your test, you can do what you like.”
The SNU could be the dem-dar-la-creme and world leaders in spiritualism and mediumship, maybe they need to go back to basics. Ego is also rife which also brings spiritualism into
disrepute.
There are some excellent areas of the SNU. I do hope they can turn the tide before it’s too late.
The SNU has become too commercially greedy.
It is 25 August 2022, the “new” SNU has taken office. Sadly, censorship is already in place under the new NEC. I commented on a post on the SNU Facebook page yesterday, asking them about a case they are still keeping silent about. My comments were immediately deleted and I was blocked from further commenting (and I have the screenshots to prove it). My email to the NEC has been ignored so far. They are starting the new by protecting the lies of the old. Business as usual.
Put your screenshot upon this blog. They have no influence here.

WHY DID YOU NEED TO USE THE NOTORIOUS COMPANY DIRECTOR, BARBARA KAHAN TO INCORPORATE YOUR PREVIOUS LAW FIRM, WINDSOR SOLICITORS LIMITED AT COMPANIES HOUSE?! AND WHERE ARE THE RECEIPTS FOR THE NINE WINDOWS THE WSC REPLACED AT ADELAIDE HALL?
THE SNU’s FORMER PROPERTY COORDINATOR, GRAHAM HEWITT, WAS A SOLICITOR UNTIL THE LAW SOCIETY INVESTIGATED HIM & HE WAS SUBSEQUENTLY SENTANCED AT THE OLD BAILEY!

The Windsor Spiritualist Church are trespassers, supported by the useless Charity Commission. The WSC trespassed on my property to illegally replace windows at Adelaide Hall (THAT IS ITS LEGAL NAME), aka Windsor Spiritualist Church, for personal and financial gain.
This alleged ‘church’ watched me & my wife leave our house (to go to work); after which they entered our property without our knowledge & consent to carry out illegal building work which has resulted in a continuous TRESPASS!!
NEITHER THE WSC NOR THE SNU have any evidence of the contractor they claim to have carried out the work; they have no VAT receipt, and the SNU’s insurance company have refused to provide them with legal representation.
The SNU should be struck off by THE CHARITY COMMISSION & investigated by HMRC!
